RightEdge 2010 is Released!

Our latest build, build 16 is a public release. Existing license holders for RightEdge 2008 and current gold subscription holders are entitled to a free update to 2010. Please go to your "My Account" link to obtain your new serial numbers.

Build 16 contains the following changes:

Fixed possible NullReferenceException in options dialog (in PluginToken.Clone method)
Position close orders will now use the Tag property from the corresponding position.
TWS plugin will now round stop prices to the nearest tick or nearest decimal place specified in the symbol setup.
Fixed issue where orders would use the bar end time for the filled time (especialy when CreateTicksFromBars was false), which would make them appear to be filled one bar later than they were. They will now use the bar end time minus one second.

We're proud to offer a release candidate of our latest version of RightEdge. This download is available to all. The current release, build 15, is available for download from our Downloads page.

NOTE: This is pre-release software.

The items below have been addressed since the last beta build of Edition 2, build 14.

Saved frequencies are now editable in options dialog
Fixed "Off by one" issue with MaxLookBack
Count property of bar element series now reflects the available value count (ie, won't ever be more than MaxLookBack)
Tick importer supports fractions of seconds for timestamp and shows parsing errors in preview
Fixed exception when accessing data store plugin after upgrade.
Fixed SystemData.CurrentTime in backtest mode
Modified TWS plugin to ignore warning 2109, fixed issue where parsing of account value was dependent on system settings

Updated ADX, ADXR, DIPlus, DIMinus, DirectionalMovement, and TMA indicators to not round their values to the nearest integer. Fixed issue where time of day could be included in symbol's expiration date when using symbol add dialog or new watchlish folder wizard
Position.UnrealizedProfit and Position.CurrentValue will now be based on the latest tick instead of the most recent bar's close.
RightEdge should no longer run as a 32-bit application when on a 64-bit OS.
Bar data checker will now detect bars with OHLC values of zero, infinity, or NaN
Fixed bug which would cause a crash if TWS sent a symbol where the currency type was null
Chart trade labels will now show to the left of the bar to which they apply, which will make it easier to see recent trades in live mode.
Removed SimOpen and SimHighLow methods from broker interface

Beta Build 14 Available

Here are a list of changes / fixes since build 13.

Optimization dialog will now show the total run count
Fixed loading optimization parameters from file on different culture settings.
Changes made to an indicator in the system designer will be reflected in the properties window if that indicator is currently selected.
Added help text to importer "Multiple bars found" error message indicating that the Time or DateTime import field may need to be used. Data export will now use "Date/Time" as header.
System project file will be saved before running a system.
Fixed issue where out of order ticks could be sent to live system, resulting in exception (and system stopping)
Setting PL/SL type to None for position options will prevent it from using PL/SL (instead of using the PositionManager defaults)
Fixed IQFeed plugin to no longer send out of order ticks.
Fixed timing issue with TWS plugin where an exception would be thrown if the system attempted to cancel an order which had been filled, but the system had not yet processed the fill for.

Performance improvements for processing tick data in live systems
Forex symbols set to "Default" bar construction will now use "Mid" bar construction.

Indicators that modify old values can now work (they will need to be modified to support the ISeries.OldestValueChanged property).
Bars will not be considered "empty" if there were any bid/ask ticks
When NewTick is called, there should be partial bars (even if empty) for all symbols, even those that haven't had a tick yet this bar
Fixed some cases where symbol would not be chosen correctly when importing tick data (for example EURUSD wouldn't be converted to EUR/USD).
Fixed issue with forex symbols where there could be a "Can't convert from XXX to YYY" error when trading before a bar was finished.
Progress bar and percent complete on System Progress window will now be updated
ADX Indicator calculation updated

RightEdge 2008 Edition 2 Beta Build 13 available

Please note that this build has not been tested extensively. We had decided not to release it so we could spend more time on fixing issues and further polish before releasing a build, instead of testing this one. However, this build includes a fix to a performance bug when using short bar lengths (ie 1 minute bars), so we decided to make it available to address the performance issues people were having.

Here is the changelist:
-The Open and Close positions lists (in the live data pane) now sort numerically where applicable.
-Project property grid has been updated and improved
-Custom frequencies can now be selected in the project properties
-Custom frequencies can define custom editors (which should derive from Control and implement RightEdge.Common.IPluginEditor) with the PluginEditorAttribute
-System parameters can now be edited directly in the project properties grid
-The low value, high value, and number of steps for a system parameter are now saved (and can be edited from the project properties grid)
-RightEdge will no longer crash if there is an error starting live data
-Further performance improvements, especially when using shorter bar lengths
-A failure to connect to the broker when starting a live system will no longer require a restart of RightEdge due to the system DLL file being locked.
-Each run in an optimization is now run in a new AppDomain, which should prevent memory leaks
-Message warning of difference between bar statistics and broker cash will no longer be output if system statistics are disabled.
-System results position list now shows bars held again, and P/L per bar is now correct. In addition, the Position class now has a BarsHeld property.
-FixedAmountPerPosition, UseFixedAmountPerPosition, and PercentPerPosition properties have been removed from PositionManager. They have been replaced by the Allocation and AllocationType properties. The AllocationType can be Percentage, FixedAmount, or FixedSize.
-TargetPriceTypes have been renamed, and new values have been added. Profit target and stop loss types can now be set in the project property grid.
-Fixed misalignment between holdings and cash which in equity curve, which was causing spikes in the chart.
-Fixed issue where TWS plugin would always round limit price to two decimal places for symbols with no tick size.
-TWS plugin should now ignore negative fills and fills from a different FA account than the one specified in the plugin options
-Symbols will now display strike price with currect currency symbol. Options and futures will now display strike price/expiration in many places (live system window, chart titles, data download form, etc.).

New Builds of RightEdge Available

The following changes only apply to Edition 2:

Updated RightEdge to use .NET 3.5.
Added ability to edit ticks.
Added support for tick level backtesting (set the "Tick-level simulation" to True in the system properties to enable).
RightEdge won't crash anymore if colums.xml file is corrupted.
Existing positions are not set in a live system until it switches to live mode
BarsValid will not be decreased for the first new bar for orders submitted while processing order update events. This will fix the problem where in simulations these orders would never be filled unless BarsValid was 2 or more.
Fixed bug where partial bar could be null in NewTick
Ticks generated from bars with the same timestamp will be sent in a consistent order
The last lead bar for live systems will have the end date set to the same date as the start date, so that if the bar is not completed yet there won't be out of order data errors.
Option to specify short margin (in symbol setup)
Fixed "Key already exists" exception when using an option with the same stock symbol.

The following changes apply to both Edition 1 and 2:

Added the ability to specify which order high and low are processed
TWS plugin overflow errors should be fixed.
Fixed an issue in the IB plugin where no "Last" was being reported on Index symbols.

EDIT: Build 380 is now available. It fixes a bug preventing projects from loading when the BaseClasses.cs file is not present (which was happening with the installed samples).

RightEdge 2008 Edition 1, Build 374 Available

When running a live system, live data will not be started until after the system has been initialized. This way the system won't miss any live data that is sent by the live data plugin.
Partial fills will not cause "special" orders (profit targets, stop losses, and trailing stops) to be cancelled and resubmitted. This should fix bugs where the position manager would attempt to cancel a partially filled order, or it would reset the trailing stop when it was partially filled.
Dll-only (exported) systems should now run correctly
Added logging of overfills to the output window
Fixed a bug that would happen when an order was filled on a closed position. The overfill handler would be called recursively many times and the position size would double each time.
Updated Open E Cry plugin to support OEC API 3.2
Added "Save Optimization Results" setting which will prevent the optimization results from being saved to disk if it is disabled. This can save space but the detailed results will not be available from the optimization result screen.
Improved handling of historical data pacing violations in the TWS plugin.

RightEdge 2008 Edition 1, Build 366 Available

This is an interim build that's a free upgrade for everyone. Here are the release notes for this build.

Added IQFeed historical and realtime plugin.
Added support for detecting disconnections from broker or live data services, and automatically attempting to reconnect.
This can be controlled from the live tab of the RightEdge options. There is also a ConnectionStateChanged event in SystemData, and BrokerConnected and DataConnected properties to determine which services are connected.
The broker can now override the account state that is passed to it by RightEdge. See the documentation for IBroker.SetAccountState for details.
Added ability to add blank space to the right of the last bar on charts. To do this, scroll to the end of the chart and then drag the right third of the chart's x axis to the left.
New build type in the project tree called "Embedded Resource". This behaves like Visual Studio where an external resource such as a graphic file will be embedded directly into the generated assembly.
The historical data download window will automatically close on success when it is running as a result of the /U command line option.
Messages written to the standard output stream (ie using Console.WriteLine) by live data and data retrieval plugins will be shown in the output window.
Fixed an exception that would occur when running an optimization that included a symbol with no data.
Fixed an exception that would occur in live systems if using indicators which weren't shown in charts.
If the trial period has expired, RightEdge will now show a dialog informing the user of this instead of crashing.
Fixed autocomplete/intelliprompt for projects with multiple source files.
Removed a few cases where output would unnecessarily be sent to the console.
Fixed a bug where if there was an error saving the project file (for example if it was read-only or renamed) you could not exit RightEdge.
Fixed a bug that would occur if a chart without much data was zoomed way out and then the bars per page was reset.
Added a check so that RightEdge will not open project files created with later versions of RightEdge.
Fixed BarUtils.HighestHigh and BarUtils.LowestLow when using RLists with empty bars in them.

The status bar text will show if there was an error building the system.
Exported DLL only trading systems were erroneously re-creating BaseClasses.cs/vb when opened.
ClosePosition now returns a ReturnCode.
Fixed a bug where Position BarCountExit and Order BarsValid would be decreased during the lead bars when running in live mode and loading open positions.
Fixed bug where you could zoom in too far in a chart.
Fixed exception when there are fewer bars than the default number of bars visible and you try to display a chart from the symbol results.
If you have multiple system classes, the system class name will now be used to determine which one is used.

RightEdge 2008 Edition 1 Available

The release of RightEdge is now available. In order to facilitate our rapid release cycle so that we may deliver features and fixes faster, we've adopted a new versioning scheme. Please see the relevant portion of the Purchasing FAQ for detailed information.

In a nutshell, our customers really appreciate our rapid release cycle. To continue delivering features as fast as we can crank them out, RightEdge will now be released in editions. If a perpetual license is purchased, bug fixes as well as the next edition will still be available free of charge. For lease subscribers and subscription holders, nothing changes, except for that you get features faster.

All existing customers may update to RightEdge 2008 Edition 1 at no charge.

A note to our previous evaluators. We have reset the trial clock on the RightEdge trial. Everyone who has previously downloaded and used the trial to expiration will have a fresh 30 days.

Changes since build 362:

Fixed problem where using the paper trader in live trading for more than one symbol would produce incorrect fills.
PnL will be displayed to two decimal places in the live system position lists.
Added PositionID property to BrokerOrder class. PositionManager will set this to the ID of the associated position before calling IBroker.SubmitOrder.
Added ability to export system breakdown results.
Added link to open sample systems to start page.
Fixed importing forex symbols where symbol name came from filename.
Fixed a problem where changing the symbol information would not prompt you to move the data to the new symbol in some cases.

RightEdge 1.2 RC2 Build 362

RightEdge 1.2 RC2 - Take 2

We know a lot of folks use multiple instances of RightEdge. Build 360 inadvertently broke that. As a result, we released 361 to address this quickly. If you're using 360 and you don't need multiple instances of RE, you're fine with 360. If you do use multiple instances, you'll want to download build 361.

RightEdge 1.2 Beta Build 357 (Magnum) Released

A new build of RightEdge has been released:

When running live systems with lead bars, RightEdge no longer stays in lead bar mode until the first live bar is completed.
Support for code snippets added.
Check for updates menu item removed, added notification of new versions to Start Page.
System initialization (bar loading step) has been sped up.
Systems can output messages to the RightEdge status bar.
Trailing stop improvements - Trailing stop can now be specified as a percentage or as a fixed price point by setting the TrailingStopPrice property. When using the paper trader, the StopPrice of the order will be the current price, and an OrderUpdated event will be raised whenever the stop price changes.

RightEdge 1.2 Beta Build 355

We have released an update to the RightEdge 1.2 Beta. The new version is build 355 and is available from our Download Page.

For a list of changes made since RightEdge 1.1, see the updated release notes. If you have not yet converted your trading systems to RightEdge 1.2, please see the RightEdge Development Guide thread and the RightEdge Trading System Conversion Guide.

The major changes since the previous beta (build 351) are support for manual trading, position and order persistence for live systems, and trading inside bars (or on the close) for simulations. Below is more detailed information about the changes:

· Support for trading inside bars or on the close of a bar in simulation.

o A TradeInsideBars property has been added to SystemData. If enabled, the open price of the bar will be processed first, then the low and high, then the close. This makes it possible to have the profit target or stop loss filled on the same bar that a position is opened. BarOpened and BarClosing events have been added to SystemData which allow you to write logic that runs just after the open or just before the close (if the TradeInsideBars property is enabled).

· Open Position and Pending Order Persistence

o In RightEdge 1.1, positions opened by a live system could be persisted between runs, but pending orders would not be persisted.

o Now, when you stop a live system, both open positions and pending orders will be saved to a file named LiveOpenPositions.xml in your trading system project directory.

o When you start a live system, if there are any saved positions, you will be prompted to select which ones are still active.

o A new method called SetExistingOrders has been added to the IBroker interface so that RE can give the broker plugin the list of orders that should still be active.

o The IService.Connect method now takes a parameter of type ServiceConnectOptions which lets the plugin know if it will be used for historical data retrieval, live data, or for broker functions.

o When you connect to TWS using the IB plugin for broker functions, the plugin will determine whether each of the orders that were saved as pending is still active, cancelled, or filled. If the order was cancelled or filled while disconnected, the plugin will raise the OrderUpdated event so that your system will be notified of the change. Fill information for previous days may not be reported by TWS, so if the order was filled on a previous day while you were disconnected, it might be reported as canceled instead of filled by the plugin.

· Discretionary Features
From the user interface you can now open a new position, cancel existing orders and close existing positions from within Live System pane. See the Manual or Discretionary Trading topic in the help file under the "How Do I?" section.

· Added two utility indicators named Highest and Lowest to return the highest and lowest values in a series over the specified period.

· Updated the MB Trading plugin to utililize the latest version of the MB libraries (version 11.x).

· Unable to cancel errors are reported as warnings and not system wide exceptions.

· An error was fixed in the IB plugin where orders on ticks generated an exception.

· Other miscellaneous bugfixes.

Announcing RightEdge 1.2 Beta

We're proud to announce the release of our first 1.2 beta. This beta is feature complete and may become a release candidate if no issues are discovered. This release contains all of the changes proposed in the RightEdge Development Guide thread.

An important note to those that are using 1.1. 1.2 and 1.1 should work side-by-side. Hopefully this will ease migration.

The release notes cover all of the changes made for 1.2 as well as the features implemented. Updated end user and developer documentation is installed with the beta.

And we've also created a RightEdge Trading System Conversion Guide to aid those migrating systems from RightEdge 1.1.

New Documentation

We've made a number of enhancements to our documentation along with methods of delivery. Our documentation page contains links to all of the available formats. Most notably, we've created a printable manual in PDF format. Most of the information contained is identical to that in the context sensitive help, but this version has been rearranged in chapter format so that it makes more sense in printed form. The end user guide is also available online with searching capabilities. And finally, we've beefed up the online developer documentation with a better look and feel and more inline samples.

1.1 introduces greatly improved forex support. This includes support for cross currency pairs and support. Interest can now be calculated on forex transactions.

Stock traders can now trade stocks in or other items that are quote in a foreign currency.

An Oanda interest rate plugin (no subscription required) to facilitate working in different currencies.

We've also added support for MBTrading (data and broker) and Oanda (rate data only).

We now support FA accounts within Interactive Brokers.

There is a new plugin for IB data using the socket. In subsequent releases, we will likely remove all dependence from IB TWS API versions.

RightEdge 1.1 Beta 1 Available

We're opening up the beta to all registered members. This beta release is nearly feature complete, but we're not there yet. If you're a license holder, you may want to back up your RightEdge.lic file and replace it after the installation. If you're using a trial license, the beta will continue to work with this license. Now onto the release notes.

The "Currency Symbol" in the RightEdge options has been changed to "Account Currency". This needs to match the "Asset Currency" from the Symbol Information of each symbol, except for forex pairs which are based on your Account Currency.
Forex symbol setup has been improved. You can enter the symbol names in the format "EUR/USD", and the Asset Currency in the symbol information will be set to USD. This means you can enter multiple forex symbols at once from the add symbol dialog, and you can distinguish between forex pairs with the same base currency. You will still have to set up the tick size, contract size, and initial margin in the Symbol Information. The Interactive Brokers plugin has been updated to work with forex symbols specified this way.
New Utility Indicators are Available
- Bar Performance - Displays price movements as percentages.
- Floor - Retrieves the floor of an input value.
- Ceiling - Retrieves the ceiling of an input value.
- Consecutive - Tracks the consecutive movements of a series.
- Round - Rounds an input value.
- Absolute Value - Retrieves the absolute value of an input.
MB Trading Real Time Data and Broker Plugin Available. MB Trading customers will be able to retrieve real time data or perform broker functions through MB Trading. Please note that MB Trading only allows one connection per machine.
Interactive Brokers plugin now supports FA accounts. This is a setting within the IB broker plugin. Simply set the account code for the account to enable this functionality.
Profit calculations have been corrected for forex pairs where your account currency is the base currency. Attempting to trade a forex pair which does not include your account currency will now be treated as an error. This is because the profit would need to be converted to your account currency, but the exchange rate is not known.
Paper trader has a new option to use the bid and ask price to calculate fills. If enabled, it will look at the bid and ask values for a bar to determine the spread. To use this option, the bid and ask prices for the bar should be the bid and ask prices at the close of the bar. If the bid and ask are zero, it will use the normal prices. If they are nonzero, it will use the difference between the close and the bid and ask to calculate bid and ask values for the OHLC values. The bid values will be used for sell transactions, and the ask values will be used for buy transactions.
A SubmitOrder method has been added to PositionManager. This method will allow you to submit an arbitrary order for a position. You can specify the number of bars the order should be active for. This method returns a ReturnValue<string>, which will hold the order ID of the order if it was successfully submitted. A CancelOrder method has also been added to PositionManager, which allows you to cancel a pending order.
When collecting live data, the aggregated bars will now include the bid and ask prices, if available.
You can now use an Enum type as a constructor argument for your indicators.
RightEdge has always allowed you to have more than one open position per symbol, if you want. This allows you to have seperate exit criteria (profit targets, stop losses, etc.) for positions that were opened at different price points. However, the broker doesn't make this distinction. If you have two positions open for 100 shares each, the broker sees your current position as 200 shares long. When dealing with simple equity trading, this distinction doesn't matter much. However, when dealing with short positions, forex symbols, or symbols with a margin requirement, the profit and loss calculations can be different depending on whether you are calculating them for multiple seperate positions or a single combined position. Because of this, the position manager has been modified to keep track of the combined positions for the purposes of profit and loss calculation. We are calling these positions the broker positions. If you subscribe to PositionManager's OrderFilled event, you can access the corresponding broker position using the BrokerPosition member of the OrderFilledEventArgs object.
The Paper Trader has a new setting to allow position reversal. This will allow a sell or cover order which is bigger than your current position size to be filled, opening a position in the opposite direction with the remaining shares. In other words if you are long 100 shares on a symbol, you could submit an order to sell 300 shares, and you would end up short 200 shares for that symbol.
Position manager has improved support for position reversal and orders that are filled on a closed position. When either of these happens, we say that a position has been overfilled. By default RightEdge will throw an exception when this happens. You can use the PositionOverfilledAction property and the PositionOverfilled event (both members of PositionManager) to modify this behavior. See the developer documentation on these items for more information.
Oanda interest rate plugin added. This allows you to download historical interest rates for different currencies.
We have added two properties to the SystemData class. The SymbolBars property gives you a list of bars for each symbol, without any empty bars. Because of this the lists for different symbols can have different lengths. The SystemBars property gives the list of bars for each symbol, with empty bars included. So a given index should correspond to the same date/time for all the SymbolBars lists. The old BarCollections property has the same value as the SystemBars property, but it is now obsolete. We think the SystemBars property is clearer to understand, so we recommend using the it instead. The lists for each symbol are now of type IList<BarData>, instead of type List<BarData> as before. This is done to avoid storing two lists for each symbol. We have written a wrapper class that implements IList<BarData> that is more efficient. You may have to replace List<BarData> with IList<BarData> in your code.

In-Place Updates Beta

We plan on continuing our rapid releases to address issues and also deliver features faster. This application is accessible from the Help->Check for updates menu within RightEdge.

Searchable Online Developer Guide

There is now a search feature available in the online version of the developer guide. There are some other aesthetic tweaks to the help both locally and online.

We discovered that the trial license file was marked as "Vital" in the previous installation and may be installed over top or removed during an uninstall. We've since corrected the problem, however, it may be necessary to go to your customer page and re-apply your purchased license. Installation

After the successful download of RightEdge, double click the RightEdgeSetup.msi file. Follow the steps in the installation wizard and once the files are copied to their final destination, RightEdge is ready to use.

Uninstallation

It is highly recommended that RightEdge is uninstalled before installing this refresh. In addition to running the uninstall (located in the Start/Remove Programs in the Control Panel), it is recommended that the RightEdge program folder is completely removed. After running the uninstall, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the RightEdge folder (the default folder is located in C:\Program Files\Yye Software) and delete this folder.

RightEdge Pricing Plans Finalized, Lease Purchase Option!

RightEdge pricing and plans available have been finalized and we're pleased to announce the addition of a lease purchase option! The perpetual license for RightEdge has been fixed at $499USD. This will entitle the license holder to all minor updates for free. Upgrade "protection" can be purchased in the form of a subscription which also offers advanced support options as well as priority response.

The lease purchase option allows you to use RightEdge on a month to month basis for a cost of $50USD per month. However, one notable difference from a standard lease is that the lease fee is not thrown away each month. 50% of the lease cost can be applied towards a perpetual license in the future.

Almost there ...
The release candidate is an important milestone for RightEdge. We are now putting forth a build that we intend to release if no serious defects are turned up by our quality assurance testing or any beta testers. Please download our release candidate and please report any problems that discovered right away.

All Fixes

Release Candidate 2 is all bug fixes. We've fixed things rather sparingly to make sure that we do not break anything inadvertently before release. Anything of critical priority that we could reproduce was addressed. Thanks to all of you who report problems and take the extra time to provide us with the information that we need.

What's Coming
With the release candidate available, we plan on making RightEdge available for purchase within the next week or two. However, we're not resting on our laurels, we still have a number of items that we'd like to address. Those items that are not critical enough to hold up the release, but deserve attention in the near term.

Expect to see some polls on our forums very soon to spark discussion on the top priority features for post 1.0.

RightEdge creates a program group in the Start Menu. There are three items in the list, RightEdge, Getting Started Guide and RightEdge Developer Guide. It is highly recommended that you take a look at the Getting Started Guide to learn the basics of navigating around the software and understanding key features.
