RightEdge Beta 1 Refresh

We've done another refresh of beta 1 for RightEdge.  The software can be downloaded from the following URL:

http://www.rightedgesystems.com/Download.aspx

Anyone who is a member of the site can now download the beta, free of charge.  If you haven't signed up already, click here (it's free, and we don't give out any of your information).  This will most likely be the last refresh before beta 2 unless serious problems are discovered.

Note:

RightEdge is built on top of the latest Microsoft .NET Framework.  Check to make sure the Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 is installed on your computer.  If it is not installed, or you are not sure, please obtain this framework from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

This is a free download.

What's New

  • QuoteTracker Support (Live Data)

RightEdge now supports QuoteTracker (http://www.quotetracker.com/) as a live data source.  This will appear in the services configuration.

  • Share Trading Systems!

While not a feature of the software, we've recently updated our website to facilitate uploading of trading systems by both our staff and any RightEdge user.  See this feature here.  We will be posting systems that we use here over the next few days, so check back often!

  • Introducting Chart Objects

Chart objects are making their debut in this build.  Chart objects allow you from both code and the user interface to place objects such as a text field, a rectangle, a line, a triangle, etc onto the chart with the click of a button.  The chart objects are drag and droppable onto the chart.

There are 40 different objects to choose from.  Here's a list of a few:

  • Circle
  • Line
  • Rectangle
  • Price Rectangles
  • Triangle
  • Fibonacci Fan
  • Fibonacci Circle
  • Fibonacci Channels
  • Square Cycle Line
  • Linear Regression Channels
  • Standard Error Channels
  • Up and down trend Channels
  • Spirals
  • Arcs
  • Chainable Indicators

We have reworked the indicators so that an indicator can sit on top of any number of indicators that support chaining.  For example, if you wanted to retrieve the simple moving average of a relative strength reading and add 42 to each of the resulting values, this is now possible.  Yes, the sample is ridiculous, but this demonstrates the power and flexibility.

  • API Enhancements & Documentation

The API is nearly feature complete.  Now is a good time to begin writing systems since there are no expected sweeping changes to core pieces.  We've added support for manipulating series values (things such as Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide and Shift).  There are also many new functions to manipulate the charts from systems and all of the chart objects can be added programmatically.

Keep up to date with the latest documentation at http://www.rightedgesystems.com/Documentation/DeveloperGuide/index.html.

  • SQL Server Integration

RightEdge has the ability to save every tick.  Unfortunately, this doesn't work so well with data stores such as XML.  In order to provide a smooth experience storing live tick data, we've created an SQL Server data store.  Microsoft has made a free version of SQL Server available that will work with RightEdge.  SQL Server Express editions are available for download at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/.  At a later date, we will integrate SQL Server 2005 Express with the installer.  Once you've installed SQL Server, you can receive a backup of the database RightEdge expects to work with at http://www.rightedgesystems.com/downloads/stockdata_sqlserver.zip.  Further instructions will be posted to the forums within the next day or two.  Anyone who would like personal assistance, we'll be happy to help.  Please send a support request and we'll be in touch in less than one day (and usually less than one hour).

What's Fixed

  • Many bugs fixed in the charts.
  • 1 Minute bars had the possibility of drawing many bars at the same minute if the system time and quote source time were different.
  • Shorting has been fixed.
  • Market on close has been fixed.
  • System results do not work correctly if the last bar dates for different symbols don't match
  • Switching between charts from different system results may not switch indicators correctly
  • Bringing up a chart from system results will bring up existing chart.  Charts are no longer reused, a new chart will be created.
  • Double clicking on a symbol in the live data window does not bring up a chart.
  • ESC should cancel chart area selection
  • Creating a new project does not add it to the MRU list.
  • The possibility exists for bar data to not be inserted into an Access database.

Installation

After the successful download of RightEdge, extract the zip file to a temporary directory and run the Setup application.  Follow the steps in the installation wizard and once the files are copied to their final destination, RightEdge is ready to use.

Uninstallation

It is highly recommended that RightEdge is uninstalled before installing this refresh.  In addition to running the uninstall (located in the Start/Remove Programs in the Control Panel), it is recommended that the RightEdge program folder is completely removed.  After running the uninstall, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the RightEdge folder (the default folder is located in C:\Program Files\Yye Software) and delete this folder.

Direct Access to Developers!

Our development staff is at your disposal.  We understand that documentation and samples are sparse this early in the game.  With that, we offer you personal help on a one to one basis.  Whether you prefer email, instant messenger or telephone, we're available to help with any question.  None are too big or small for us to answer.  We hope you'll take advantage of this resource.

Documentation

RightEdge creates a program group in the Start Menu.  There are three items in the list, RightEdge, Getting Started Guide and RightEdge Developer Guide.  It is highly recommended that you take a look at the Getting Started Guide to learn the basics of navigating around the software and understanding key features.  Use the RightEdge Developer Guide to help build systems from code.  The RightEdge Developer Guide is now available online at http://www.rightedgesystems.com/Documentation/DeveloperGuide/index.html.

Sharing Ideas

We believe beta 1 adopters are interested in shaping the software to be the best product it can be.  We not only welcome, but enjoy positive discussions and debate about the product as it is and what it will become.  We invite everyone to share their findings and suggestions in our forums.  Please ask your questions so that they may be answered to the benefit of everyone in our forums.

Reporting Problems

Beta testers have our full support resources available to them.  For the short term, it is recommended that you post any problems to our public forums so that others may benefit from the solution provided.  You may also use our support URL to send a message directly to our support staff at http://www.rightedgesystems.com/support.aspx.  We can also provide others means of support (telephone, instant messenger, etc) on a case by case basis.

We look forward to your feedback.
